macsformeyeah, our map objects and the way they are rendered could stand some consolidation/improvement/work... probably not in time for 2.6, though04:44
macsformeso issue #268 is still present on an up-to-date macOS Catalina... just not in the preceding (Mojave) or subsequent (Big Sur) system versions04:47
macsformewhen I get around to it, I'll look for a way to test for it and re-create the window when that happens... other than that, I don't have other ideas for workarounds at the moment04:51

blast007macsforme: I'm gonna work on it today.  Just working on getting my local repo mirror synced up so I can easily test it across devices.12:47
BZNotifybzflag: blast007 synchronized pull request #255 "Improved joystick support" by macsforme (https://git.io/JfNqd)13:09
macsformeI guess I didn't actually try compiling it from scratch on Catalina to see if the newer API fixes it... I think I was just running 2.4.2015:46
macsformeprobably worth a shot too15:46
blast007I'm using the latest Xcode on 10.1515:50
blast007the latest Xcode doesn't have the 10.7 SDK anymore.  Think the oldest is 10.9, if that matters.15:51
macsformeyeah15:51
macsformeand on further thought, I think I did compile on Big Sur and then try running that on Catalina, and that was what was still having issues... so disregard that15:52
blast007also, when we start messing around with gamepads again, I have several more to test with (two bluetooth 8BitDo, one USB 8BitDo, and the two Atari VCS controllers, plus the PS3 and Xbox One controllers I had, and some older USB Saiteks)15:54
blast007and when the PS5 controller support gets merged into the linux kernel and comes to an OS I'm using, I could get one of those too :)15:55
blast007s/PS3/PS4/15:55
*** Foo_man_choo is now known as short_circuit15:56
macsformeyeah, I got hung up on it when I discovered how triggers are axes instead of buttons on some controllers... I don't think controllers would be fully usable until we can allow an axis to be used as a button15:59
macsformeand then there are other things to think about, like do you allow the upper and lower thresholds to be configurable, etc....16:00
macsformeI'll get back around to it someday :-P16:01
blast007the Atari VCS Classic Controller is quite weird :)  the handle of the stick can spin and that's an axis.  But the actual movement of the stick doesn't seem to be tied to any axis, so it might just be a dpad.16:15

JeffM[m]blast007: that’s to emulate the paddle controller17:20
JeffM[m]But on the Atari the stick was a d pad17:20
JeffM[m]So that makes sense if they are trying to emulate the two types of controllers the VCS had17:21
blast007It has an LED ring around the joystick.  Initially I thought it had more than just 8 positions, but upon closer looking it does seem to just be 8.17:27
blast007I was never moving it slow enough to see the sharp jumps in lighting.17:28
*** Sgeo <Sgeo!~Sgeo@ool-18b98aa4.dyn.optonline.net> has joined #bzflag19:57
JeffM[m]If you play pong on it , do the lights go with the rotation?21:01
blast007yep21:25
blast007but man is that aweful21:25
blast007awful*21:25
blast007(playing it, I mean)21:27
blast007the accuracy of the sensor doesn't feel great.  the paddle flickers between positions even when you're not touching the joystick and I also feel like it has jumped ahead when I was rotating right when it would have been in position to reflect the ball..21:29
